Project presentation

Aloyse Leledy-Bécue is a filmmaker with a rich body of work spanning more than twenty years, from 2004 to today: personal works, commissions and collaborations, alongside a biography and a contact page. Such a large and varied catalogue called for a showcase worthy of a strong visual identity — one able to give every film its due without overwhelming the visitor, and to be enriched without depending on a third party for each new project.

I designed and built a WordPress brochure site with a custom theme, structured around the filmography. Each film is documented through structured fields (ACF — Advanced Custom Fields): year, role, themes. That structure powers filtering of the filmography by theme (architecture, contemporary art, dance and performance, experimental, feminism…) and by project type (personal works, commissions, collaborations), letting the visitor explore a dense body of work along their own entry point.

The custom theme carries the portfolio's editorial identity, while ACF-based entry gives the filmmaker control over the catalogue: adding a film, documenting it and classifying it is done independently from the WordPress admin, with no technical intervention.

The result is a polished portfolio that brings more than twenty years of films together in one place, filterable and independently manageable, in keeping with the artistic approach it presents.

Objectives

  • Give a rich filmography and a strong visual identity a polished showcase
  • Bring personal works, commissions and collaborations together in one place
  • Let the filmmaker add and document films independently
  • Structure each film with metadata (year, role, themes) for a filterable catalogue
  • Offer filtering by theme, by project type and by chronology

Results

  • Custom WordPress portfolio bringing together a filmography from 2004 to today
  • Filmography filterable by theme and by project type
  • Each film documented through structured fields (year, role, themes) via ACF
  • Catalogue manageable independently from the WordPress admin
The technology trade-off
Options considered
  • Off-the-shelf generic page builder
  • Custom headless front end (WordPress + Next.js)
  • Custom WordPress theme backed by ACF
Decision

Custom WordPress theme paired with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields).

Why this choice

A generic page builder would have constrained the portfolio's visual identity and the entry of structured metadata; a headless front end was overkill for a self-managed catalogue. The custom theme carries a distinct editorial identity, and ACF structures each film (year, role, themes) into a filterable catalogue that the filmmaker enriches independently.
